For the NACCC we had over 30 sponsors, with a total budget in excess of $35,000 to fund the event. Local Chicago organizations like the Chicago Bicycle Federation (now the Active Transportation Alliance) came on board, as did significant industry plays such as Chrome, Kryptonite and Velocity and outside cycling industry like Pabst Blue Ribbon.
For the CMWC we are expanding these sponsorship opportunities and our fundraising abilities. We have more time to prepare, more riders and a bigger audience. The CMWC is a high profile international race, and an excellent showcase for in and out industry companies to showcase their products, meet their customers and contribute to an event that places messengers and what they do in an exciting and positive spotlight. The CMWC isn't a marketing scheme - it's a chance for our industry and culture to shine out.
The pitch for Chicago, naturally, is that we've done this before. We have the network and the contacts to bring in the money and sponsors to put on such a high-profile event. It's not cheap, and we know it. But witnessing the support generated by our work on the 2008 NACCC we are confident that we can provide opportunities and exposure to a whole range of sponsors, from marquee companies to the smallest boutique brand. We're all in it together, and we're in it to win it.
